Hike & Fly Tritt

Pre-Alpine flight

If you imagine a staircase from the Mittelland to the Alps, Ufem Tritt (1307 m ü. M.) one of the first steps. A small step, what follows is big and beautiful.

Ufem Tritt (or simply dä Tritt) and the slightly higher Chli Amslen (1399 m above sea level) can be seen as western counterparts to Hummel and are located not far from it between Einsiedeln and Lake Sihl. The journey and ascent are easy and short, the views are wide and inviting and there are flight options. Reason enough to dare to take the Tritt!

Key information

  • Ascent: 60-90 min (depending on starting point), easy
  • Altitude difference: 400-500 m
  • Starting point: SW-NW, easy
  • Soaring and thermal flights possible all year round
  • various ascent options, e.g. from Gross or Einsiedeln
  • Ideal with westerly winds and thermal conditions rather late in the afternoon

Arrival

The landing site in Einsiedeln (Rüti Säge stop) can be reached from Zurich HB in 57 minutes with a seamless train and post bus connection! It only takes a few minutes longer to get to Gross (SZ). There are also a few parking spaces at the landing site, but you should not use the one at the Burg restaurant. Alternatively, you can park at Obergross, about 25 minutes above the landing site.

Ascent

From the Einsiedeln landing site (west side of the Tritt), follow the tarmac road and climb via Wäni to Obergross. Then follow beautiful, well-marked forest and pasture paths via Chüeboden up to the Tritt. Easy, even with normal heavy equipment. 60-90 minutes. From the Tritt to Chli Amslen we add another 10 minutes.
From the east side, from Gross on Lake Sihl, the ascent time should be similar.

Takeoff

Ideal NW/W, slightly uneven meadow, not huge but easy. In SW the Chli Amslen is preferable. Also easy.

Flight

A pre-alpine paradise with many connecting and sightseeing flight options. Hummel, Euthal, Ybrig, Mythen, Zugi, Mostelberg, Wildspitz etc. are all nearby and within flying distance. It is 35 km to Allmend in Zurich.

Landingsite

If you didn't quite make it to Zurich: Ideally near the Burg restaurant and the Rüti Säge stop (post bus connection to Einsiedeln train station), spacious meadow, simple (no windsock, just a mini spy). If there is a brisk valley wind, be careful to keep your distance from the surrounding buildings. If the grass is cut, there are many alternatives in the area. Think of the local pilots and don't upset the farmers.

Attention

The Tritt is the gatekeeper between the Alpthal and the Sihltal, and is not located at a high altitude. It must therefore be assumed that on thermally active days the valley wind reaches high up and exerts its influence. Combined with westerly wind components and thermals, this can create crisp conditions.

Conclussion

Whether thermal or dynamic, a nearby launch site in a wonderful environment and not just in bad weather, a recommendation for friends of leisure flying. Have a good flight!
