Hike & Fly Schimbrig

Ein hübscher Emmentaler

Admittedly quite off the beaten track and therefore not easy to reach, the Alpine foothills between Lucerne and Interlaken offer many worthwhile hike & fly opportunities. One of them is the Schimbrig, which lies at 1817 m above sea level.

The Schimbrig is located southeast of Entlebuch and Schüpfheim. Our tour starts from Gfellen, this town is easily accessible by post bus from Entlebuch. Pay attention to the timetable, the post bus does not run frequently.

Directions

Public transport: Post bus to Gfellen. You should also check when the bus leaves. Otherwise you may have to wait a little longer at the Gfellen restaurant.

Car: From Entlebuch to Gfellen. From the south over the Glaubensbergpass (note the winter closure).

Ascent

On the north side it is a very leisurely hike. From Gfellen, first head SE along the Grosse Entle. At Brüederesagi, cross the bridge and head towards Schimbrigbad. Here you can either follow the hiking trail on the north side or cross the Ober Loegg. It gets a little steeper there. Then follow the ridge to the summit.
On the way you pass the Schimbrig springs. Here you can take a sip (or more) of healthy sulphurous water (greetings from Iceland).

Takeoff

Between Schimbrig and Hengst. Slightly steeper towards the south/southeast. Slightly flatter towards the northwest.

Landing

There are large meadows in the area of Hof Stilaub and the Gfellen restaurant. You should look at the landing sites beforehand and pay attention to the vegetation; these are not official landing sites!

Bonus Mission

The local beer and Entlebuch specialties are available in the Gfellen restaurant. Another mountain could also be climbed from there: the Risetenstock on the east side of the town.
