First of all... the Glarus region is known for its beautiful mountain landscape, but also for its strong valley wind systems and numerous nature reserves. Since these change depending on the season, always inform yourself before planning your tour.

From the car park in Mollis, the hike takes us to the Mätteli plateau past the Alpenblick restaurant. From here, the path becomes increasingly steeper towards Heuboden/Obertstaffel. The last water source before the summit climb is on the Alp Oberstaffel. The climb leads northwest past the Siwellen, further to the Tristli or Schilt. The last few meters before the summit are ideal for paying attention to the prevailing wind conditions. The summit offers a beautiful view of Glärnisch and the Vrenelisgärtli.

Takeoff

Since the Schilt is located directly on the border of a wildlife rest area, take-offs are only permitted when the wind is blowing from the north/northwest/west. The best places are the slopes around the Tristli (rather rocky and steep), Siwellen and the ridge between Schilt and Tristli. Here you will find a few flat places where you can easily set up your paraglider. Everything south of the connecting ridge is a nature reserve and therefore forbidden.

Landing

The landing site is used by the local paragliding school and can be flown to without any problems. Pay attention to the approach path of the airfield and also the arrival and departure of the rescue helicopter. Flying too high in the middle of the valley is not allowed. The landing site is right next to the Robair paragliding school. If in doubt, you can ask there.

Attention

The wind in Glarus can change quickly, the valley winds and thermal conditions can be strong. Check the wind at the measuring station at Mollis airport before you take off. The take-off areas are not huge, but aborting is possible at any time. Pay close attention to the wind conditions (Lee). Never try to take the shortcut with the train from Ennenda through the nature reserve, as this is prohibited and is monitored.
