An insider tip in the Urnerland. A climb of around 750 meters with a starting point in the canton of Schwyz and an exposed peak in the canton of Uri.
Direction
You can either take public transport from Lucerne, which takes about 1.5 hours, and get off at the Riemenstalden, Chäppeliberg bus stop (ATTENTION: the bus to Riemenstalden only runs twice a day). If you want to be more flexible, you can take the car and drive on the Axenstrasse to Sisikon and then turn left towards Riemenstalden.
Ascent
By train you first travel to Spilau (approx. 1700m). From there you follow the signs, first to the Lidernenhütte, which can be reached in about 10 minutes. Then you follow the well-signposted hiking trail across cow fields, through a small couloir and over a mountain ridge to the last signpost 15 minutes below the summit. From the summit you have a wonderful view of the flatlands, the Central Swiss, Uri and Glarus mountain peaks.
Takeoff
Starting from the summit is not recommended. You walk back the last few meters and start right next to the last signpost on a perfect, large, slightly inclined take-off site. The orientation is north-northwest and in light wind conditions, starting is absolutely problem-free.
Flight / Takeoff
Either you fly around the Rossstock after take-off towards Haldi-Schattorf/Flüelen/Altdorf. There are large enough fields there for landing. If you park your car at the train station, you fly straight into the valley towards Fronalpstock. There are landing fields right in front of the train station. The field above the farm seemed to be the most suitable; it is sloping (landing on a slope) but basically easy to land. Inexperienced pilots should look at the landing turn beforehand and memorize it. WARNING I: In spring and summer, there can be a strong valley wind in this narrow V-shaped valley. WARNING II: There are some cables in the valley: be careful when soaring.
Weather / Airspace
As always, good weather and map studies are essential, as is a plan B in case of adverse takeoff conditions. The DABS is always part of this. The LS-R39C and the AWY Zurich Delta can slightly limit the maximum altitude.
Conclussion
A really beautiful hike with a fantastic 360-degree view from the summit. Ideal for a morning or afternoon tour if you don't have the whole day.
