Hike & Fly Hagleren

Adventure in the Entlebuch Alps

The Hagleren (1949 m above sea level) is a popular destination for hike & fly enthusiasts. This tour offers a varied hike and an exciting flight with breathtaking views of Central Switzerland and the Bernese Oberland.

Today I chose to travel by bus, hoping to be rewarded with a nice cross-country flight later. After about 150 meters of altitude, the path splits and I decide to take the path through the forest, as it is supposed to be a hot summer day today. In the forest, from an altitude of 1700 meters, I discover numerous small blueberries. A quick search on Google confirms: Entlebuch and the Hagleren area are known for their wild blueberries. Unfortunately, they are not ripe yet, but that means I will have to come back at the end of August or beginning of September to enjoy them.

During the ascent I notice that there are only a few hikers today. At the summit, however, I meet two small groups who are very interested in my plans. They ask curiously where I would land and whether I could perhaps take one of them with me! Unfortunately, I have to disappoint them and leave everyone behind at the summit. Since the wind is not quite strong enough to pull up my Alpina on its own, they are happy to help me by holding the leading edge of my glider a little higher into the wind.

I am then rewarded with a one-hour flight over the Höch Gummen almost to the Brienzer Rothorn. Unfortunately, the westerly wind causes some turbulence in front of the Rothorn, so I decide to make a more comfortable landing in Brienz.

ASCENT

The tour begins in Sörenberg, a charming village hidden deep in the Entlebuch. From here the path leads through picturesque forests and over lush alpine meadows. The ascent takes about 2 hours 19 minutes according to the Swisstopo app and is easily doable for averagely trained hikers (T2).

TAKEOFF

The take-off point on the Hagleren offers optimal conditions for take-off. Wind conditions from the south to the west are ideal. The meadow to the west is a little steeper than the take-off meadow to the south. There is even a small wind vane next to the summit cross.

FLIGHT

The flight over the Hagleren offers an impressive view of the surrounding Alps and the Entlebuch. In good thermal conditions, longer cross-country flights are possible, which can take the paraglider pilot as far as the Emmental or even the Bernese Oberland.

LANDING

The official landing site is in Sörenberg, near the Rothornbahn. It is a long meadow above the main road.

DIRECTIONS

Sörenberg is easy to reach by car and public transport (Schulhaus stop). From Lucerne you can take the train to Schüpfheim and from there take the bus to Sörenberg. By car you can get to Sörenberg via Schüpfheim and Flühli.

ATTENTION

Pay attention to the local wildlife rest areas and protected areas. The Teufimatt wildlife rest area is active from December 1st to July 15th, but in my opinion it doesn't bother you if you head south-west.
Find out about the current weather and wind conditions beforehand.

CONCLUSION

The Hagleren offers a perfect combination of a pleasant hike and an exciting flight experience. Ideal for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of the Entlebuch Alps from the air.
