Many peaks and take-off points in the Rigi massif are well-known and are used frequently, and with good reason, of course: as a prominent gatekeeper between the Mittelland and the Alps, it not only offers a great panoramic view, but also a place to take off in almost any wind direction and enough cable cars to reach it. Along with Rigi Kulm, Staffelhöhe, Scheidegg, Urmiberg and all the others, the Dossen is little known. One reason for this is certainly that it cannot be seen from the east side, i.e. from the Goldau side, and there is no cable car to it. Instead, there is a walking path with a wonderful view and 45 minutes later you are standing on the Dossen and can take off in almost any direction.
Always at XX.08 o'clock from Arth-Goldau station within 30 minutes with the Rigi railway to Kräbel and from there with the gondola to Rigi Scheidegg, the starting point of the "hike".
From Rigi Scheidegg, follow the wide, well-signposted hiking trail, with wonderful views of the Central Swiss Alps. A leisurely 45 minutes.
Ideal in a light breeze, NE/E, easy. In light winds you can start in almost any direction: from Chli Dossen to (NW)/N, 150 m south of the summit to SW-NW, a little more challenging. Pastures with cow tracks.
With a difference in altitude of 1200 m towards Goldau! Soaring on the Dossen is possible (NE), with the possibility of connecting to the Rigi Scheidegg or the Rigi northeast or south flank. When flying to the west side (Weggis) please note HX Buochs!
Official landing site in Goldau near the train station, easy or a little more challenging depending on the time of year and valley wind. Alternatively, you can land in Weggis near the Rigi railway, slope landing, with valley wind in the lee and correspondingly dangerous.
In strong winds (including Bise), caution is advised, as the Dossen is somewhat hidden in the Rigi massif and is therefore not exposed to unobstructed winds. There are many cables on the west side.
Rigi with a difference! A beautiful hill and a great glider that is easy to reach even for those who are too lazy to walk and have a heavy backpack.
