Hike & Fly Chli Aubrig

Not so small

Between the Sihl and the Wägital lakes rise the Gross and the Chli Aubrig (1642 m). It's not that small.

Directions

By car from Zurich it takes 40 minutes to get to Euthal Landing (at the Surferplätzli), the starting point of the tour. Parking is available directly on the street. By public transport it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to Euthal Drusberg.

Ascent

The official landing site (890 m) of the Euthal flying area (47.092502, 8.818596) is located directly on Lake Sihl. There are various routes to the Chli Aubrig, both direct and indirect. Our indirect route takes us via Heitligeer (1244 m), Flüechrüz (1398 m, possible take-off site), Stockrain (1411 m), Vorderweisstannenweid (1358 m). Up until then the route alternated between gravel roads and cycle paths, but now it becomes a little narrower and more picturesque and leads via the Hintere Wisstannenweid (1446 m) up to the Rosenhöchi (1506 m). After a short descent, you reach Nüssen (1529 m) over a saddle, from where you could still branch off to Gross Aubrig, then the Wildegg restaurant (1505 m) and after a steep finale, the summit at 1642 m. This circular route is a real challenge: hiking time approx. 3-4 hours. You are rewarded for the detour with one or two extras: the route goes through porcini mushroom area. The most direct route from Euthal to the summit takes approx. 2 hours.

Takeoff

Directly under the summit cross in a south, southwest and west direction (ideal). The gradient is average, the take-off area is a bit uneven and has a few stones. In a south and southwest direction, you have to fly around two trees immediately after take-off. Level of difficulty: medium. Alternatively, you can also take off from Wildegg, SW-W.

Please note: It is now only permitted to start at Chli Aubrig between October and May.

Flight / Takeoff

Immediately after take-off, you have to head west towards the landing site, otherwise you might have a tight spot when flying over Wildegg. You can easily reach the landing site by gliding. The landing site is large, a little more challenging when there is a lot of valley wind, and fairly easy when there is no wind. Right next to the landing site, the ski lift offers something for the soul and the palate.

Weather / Airspace

As always, good weather and map studies are essential, as is a plan B in case of adverse starting conditions. The DABS is of course also part of this.

CONCLUSION

A small, fine summit with a great view of the Mittelland and the surrounding Alps. Something for mushroom lovers. Easy and beautiful hike, take-off and landing moderately difficult. NOT recommended in summer (strong valley wind) and spring (old snow fields), or when the wind is from the N/NE.
